(radio broadcasting)
ANNOTATION: The program continues to the tradition of radio stage music programs, which are broadcast live on the frequencies of Slovak Radio directly from the House of Culture in Východná every year, usually on Thursday evening, before the official opening of the festival. Radio editors Ondrej Demo, Adriana Domanská and later Samo Smetana, in cooperation with members of the festival's program board, presented the program of the current year of the festival. The authors of the individual programs, but especially the representatives of the performers — singing groups, folk music, singers, instrumentalists and in the end often also dancers — with warm support of the audience on stage to the bursting filled hall of the cultural house performed musically attractive demonstrations of programs in which later, over the next three days, performed on various festival stages in Východná. This year's program, although not live, but with an effort to recall the truly specific atmosphere of these programs, will be prepared by the long-time editor of Slovak Radio Samo Smetana. At the same time, it recalls the heritage of a prominent figure who left the folklore community forever at the end of 2020 and who perhaps contributed most to this program — the founder of field recording and radio broadcasting of traditional forms of folk music, authentic folklore, founder of the Prix de Musique folkloroque de Radio Bratislava and professional orchestra of folk instruments, publicist and organizer of musical life Ondrej Demo.

ANNOTATION: Ethnomusicologist Jana Belišová from the Department of Musicology at Faculty of Arts Comenius University in Bratislava is one of our greatest experts for Gypsies music culture in Slovakia. As part of the activities of the civic association Žudro, which she founded, she carried out a number of research projects focused on various types of song repertoire as well as the singing of Gypsies in many Slovak areas. A series of song collections, scientific publications and rare audiovisual recordings, including film projects that have been presented at film festivals, will be a window into the world of knowledge of this important figure in Slovak ethnomusicology. We will talk a lot in the discussion led by Jana Ambrózová, but we will enjoy even more examples of musical expressions of the Gypsies in Slovakia.

(symposium of woodcarvers)
ANNOTATION: The folk creation of sculptures developed into a monumental form and was used in the decoration of wooden beehives; bee logs related to the archaic way of beekeeping. The shape of the mostly chubby tree determined the future shape, the other parts of the statue were subject to its future function. The beehives were of different heights and diameters, but they also reached a height of three meters. They were colourfully painted and decorated with plastic carvings and reliefs, notches, or depictions made with a simple line cut. This part of the cultural heritage was followed by woodcarving symposia, which under the name Drawn in Wood has been organized by National Education Center within the programs of the folklore festival in Východná since 1975 on the initiative and in cooperation with Ing. arch. Viliam Gruska, Dr. Irena Pišútová and Svetozár Stračina. They were not held every year, but even so, more than 150 wooden statues have been created during that time, many of which have already fallen to the ravages of time. Drawn in Wood, as well as statues in the amphitheatre area, have become an integral part of the place and the festival. In 2019, we started with sculptures that commemorate elements of our traditional culture inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. We will continue in this theme this year as well, by creating a composition of sculptures with the theme of Terchovská muzika. The authors will be woodcarvers Peter Zoričák from Kremnica, Ľuboš Straka from Bratislava, Ján Šeliga from Hruštín and Ján Palko from Štiavnik.

(program presenting archival source video recordings of folk dance and their use in various levels and contexts)
ANNOTATION: We have known about folk dance in our territory for a long time from historical records, but we only got a visual picture of it in the last century. Archival source videos capture ancient dances in its so-called last hour of existence. Today, they are the subject of professional analysis, but above all a source of inspiration and knowledge for choreographers, teachers and performers of folk dance. Dances from film reels offer an insight into the old world, complete the image of the dance tradition and are a stimulus for professional discussion. The program will present personalities from times past, as well as dancers and groups who are currently inspired, motivated and educated by film material.

Folk Music Band Muzička and Women from Muzička — Musical debate on the sources of folk music
ANNOTATION: There is no need to introduce Folklore Music Group Muzička a Female Singing Group Ženy z Muzičky from Bratislava to Slovak folklore fans. Since the beginning of the nascent movement of dance houses in Slovakia, Muzička has been an integral part of it, it is known for its creatively conceived music albums, its members are interesting personalities of ethnomusicology or great music and singing teachers. How do they select the sources of folk music and work with them? Where do they see the possibilities and limits of musical processing and popularization of folk music? How can it be effectively communicated to an uninitiated audience? According to them, what exactly is the beauty of musical folklore in Slovakia? You will find out the answers in the music-discussion program moderated by Jana Ambrózová.

(a program presenting the origin, significance and interesting phenomena of the UNESCO World Heritage Lists)
ANNOTATION: A living heritage shows us how much we are like all the other people in the world. At the same time, it unobtrusively highlights the peculiarities of our culture, which are able to exist in harmony with the peculiarities of other cultures. In addition, it offers us the opportunity to perceive the ingenuity of our ancestors and we can connect with the older and younger generations. In the face of today's challenges, we often do not even realize that living heritage is also a knowledge of crop and animal husbandry, folk medicine and craft techniques that allow us to live in harmony with nature without abusing and destroying it.
Aware of the richness of manifestations of living heritage in the world and in countries where there are not a large number of tangible monuments, buildings or monuments, UNESCO has also undertaken to protect intangible forms of cultural heritage. This is done through the The Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage from 2003 year. The countries of the world, which the Convention grom 2003 brings together, thus directly or indirectly influence cultural policies in this field and these become binding on them. Let's discuss together what these commitments mean for the bearers of the traditions themselves. What the Convention from 2003 can bring for them — both in a positive and a negative sense.

(from the series of festival programs: UNESCO Phenomena and Musicians)
ANNOTATION: One ancient legend says that the land of Terchová is the remnant of a wandering celestial star, whose court musicians — celestial musicians — were the first settlers of Terchová. Another legend claims that the inhabitants were taught to play by the tututu "Vadic family". For the musical style of string music from the area of the Kysucká vrchovina, the name Terchová music was generalized. This important element of the traditional culture of Slovakia was recognized by UNESCO on 5th December 2013 by inclusion in the world list of the intangible cultural heritage of mankind as a phenomenon of international importance — the second in a row from us, right after the fujara. What exactly is the Terchová music with a typical folk musical instrument, who is its biggest personalities are and how it is developed at present, it will be presented by prominent representatives, the band Ťažká Muzika from Terchová and Folk Music Band Minárikovci from Horný Vadičov.

(music and singing program From the Evangelical Church in Východná)
ANNOTATION: Folk songs are a mirror of people's lives in the past. They reflect their feelings, opinions, they are a testimony to the time in which they originated. They also provide a lot of interesting information about the issue of emigration to America, Canada, France or Argentina. Slovaks went abroad not only for work but especially for a better future. In addition to folk songs, letters also came home from around the world. Some of them were full of optimism and enthusiasm for the new and unknown, others are interwoven with despair and hopelessness. Folk songs with the theme of emigration and letters from emigrants will be the main motif of the From the World program.
