Generations of people united by age, values, interests, goals and needs.
It is as if the generations of our ancestors were walking on their knees to a better future for us all. They bent their backs on the fields, they went overseas to find safety from poverty, they came back and invested in their own piece of land. In all moments of joy and sorrow, they were united by the songs, dances, words and images that have always belonged to our country and are an inseparable part of the Folklore Festival Východná.
Generations of grandfathers and grandmothers, fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters lived in one farmer's yard. Each of them had their place and their role. Those who could no longer work in the fields helped the little ones to discover the world and passed on their wisdom to them. Those, on whose shoulders rested the concern for the well-being of the large family believed in the power of the three coppers (groš – silver coin used from the 14th to the 16th century AD). One was lived on, the second was returned to the ancestors, the third was invested in the descendants.
The wisdom of the three coppers is still held today in traditional folk culture. We live from one in folklore groups. The second we return with respect to those who have passed on their wealth to us, because we have come to understand its significance. The third we give to the young, so that they may find joy and the desire to discover, to learn and to kindle a love of tradition.
The traditional cycle of life has been passed down from one generation to another. That is why all generations of performers, as well as fans, spectators, enthusiasts and supporters, have a place in the programmes of FFV 2023. Here people with respect for tradition come together and always rejoice that it is still alive.
