A Living Legacy
A Living Story of Land and People

Theme

There are stories that never end. They live in the landscape, in people's memories, in the movement of the body and in the melody of a song. Folklore is one such story — ancient, yet still alive. It is born of the past, but it breathes only when someone carries it forward.

This year's Folklore festival Východná turns to what remains alive today from the legacy of generations of creators, educators, musicians and performers — the values that have shaped Slovak folklore and that continue to emerge in the work of ensembles and individual artists alike.

Tradition is not a closed chapter. It is a constant movement between memory and the present. Within the heritage of the past we discover creativity, humility, the strength of community and a deep relationship with both land and people. These are precisely the values that come to life today — in new choreographies, bold musical interpretations and in the authentic expression of those who carry tradition forward with natural ease.

The festival will present an exceptional showcase of folklore in its highest artistic form. Leading ensembles, distinguished soloists and a new generation of performers will gather in one place to reveal the beauty, energy and diversity of a living tradition — not as a remembrance of what once was, but as a celebration of what continues to live today, here among us.

Thus the festival will be more than a reflection on the past. It will celebrate what remains alive from this heritage — today on stage, among people and in the landscape that continues to tell this story.
